Troubleshooting ScriptLab in After Effects

Encountering problems while using ScriptLab? Here are some common fixes to help you stay on track.

Script Won’t Run

• Check your script for JavaScript syntax errors like missing semicolons or unmatched brackets

• Make sure After Effects is the active window. Scripts won’t run unless the app is in focus

• Confirm the script is written for After Effects. JSX code for Illustrator may not work properly in AE

Extension Not Appearing

• Restart After Effects completely. Extensions sometimes fail to load until a full restart

• Go to Edit > Preferences > General and make sure Enable Extensions is turned on

• If issues continue, reinstall ScriptLab using the ZXP installer

Performance Issues

• Keep scripts concise. Very large scripts may slow down the editor

• Break complex code into smaller, modular scripts for smoother performance

• Close unused tabs and clear your script history regularly to avoid lag
